Got in a convo about books we aim preserve in the worst of times with the Read Against the Machine book club discord group and the topic of “Women Who Run with the Wolves” came up (I brought it up…). What I’m reading this weekend (Part 3): Needing something lighter to accompany the other two titles, I just started listening to “A Prayer for the Crown-Shy” by Becky Chambers. The sequel to the sweet, peaceful, introspective “solar-punk” novella “A Psalm for the Wild-Built.”

What I’m reading this weekend (Pt 2): Inspired by its reference in the previously mentioned book, I just finished listening to “Fahrenheit 451” by Ray Bradbury. Hadn’t read it since high school, so I’d forgotten (light spoiler) that it was society, not the government, who’d initiated a ban on books.

What I’m reading this weekend (Part 1): “On Freedom” by Timothy Snyder.

If you recently read “On Tyranny,” this is a good follow-up. Published in Sept. 2024, it’s extremely relevant to this moment. His commentary on how social media can impact our freedom is valuable in context to the TikTok ban.
