Palliative care consultant @doctoroxford.bsky.social argues that society could unintentionally 'coerce' people into assisted dying because hospice care is underfunded and unable to offer people a real choice between managed pain and suffering or assisted dying.

Clearly I wouldn't disagree with that. My point was that very large numbers of people are currently missing out on the right care at end of life because of lack of funding.

Thanks Rebecca. Totally agree - I said 'primarily' for that reason. I don't dispute there are clinical limits (Hospice UK is on record making that point).

Primarily, those limits are not clinical. They are financial.

I'm sorry to read of this experience.

Indeed, and arguably the greatest harm at play in this debate (and yet still not getting sufficient attention in my view) is the actual current reality that many, many thousands don't get the palliative and end of life care they need.

Hello! I've made a 'starter pack' of hospice people to which I'll add you now...

Wonderful piece isn't it...think Steve had his expectations completely overturned. I'd send every MP before Friday if I could.

I think you were virtually the first on the list!

I've now got to add everyone else 🤣

I've made one! Can you see it?
