Excellent volume as the Laconians take a beating. The battle itself is prefaced by an top-hole discussion of hoplite warfare that comes near to (IMO) the savage nature of the blood red game: boxing armed with a stick and a bin lid.

Excellent book. An effective galley used the brutal life of an oarsman to winnow out the weak and strength/train the strong. Defeating corsairs yielded more trained crews, but the Turks used mostly untrained crews so not worth the effort.
