I just got one thing to say to you:
Kirby Star-Crossed World (Switch 2)

This is more Forgotten Land, but I loved Forgotten Land so it was great to come back. I always like to see Kirby's challenging content and this really makes FL feel like one of the most robust, complete Kirbies (and it even has co-op, would love to try that).

If you told me the Kirby DLC would feature bosses with raid mechanics and DPS checks I would not have believed you but here we are (this was awesome)

Kirby Squeak Squad (DS)

Another mostly-beaten save file that I finally completed. This was the game that made me fall in love with Kirby as a kid. It still feels like a toybox, with each level full of treasures and novel abilities to use. The background art in this game is transcendent.

Kirby Air Riders (Switch 2)

I'm blown away by this - I thought it would be a novelty at best but this game is Sora at their strongest. This is inspiring, aspirational game design and execution. Online city trial was maybe the best idea ever. I love Rick.

Kirby: Triple Deluxe (3DS)

I've had this half finished for about a decade and Air Riders inspired me to go back. I think Robobot is the better of the two 3DS games but this one was still a lot of fun. I don't *love* hypernova but I do love the new copy abilities (bell, clown, in particular).

The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind (PC)

Beat the base game. I understand why this kind of design isn't mainstream anymore, but MAN do I love it. I did not understand how to play this as a kid but now I do and it was so rewarding. An ambitious political/religious setting and a fantastic world.

Ape Escape (PSX)

Cannot believe I haven't played this until now. This is one of the most impressive games on the PS. There is incredible creativity on display, and what starts as a simple conceit grows in complexity to an incredible finale. Scoring the whole thing to jungle was inspired. Loved it.

Some photos of my childhood shopping mall I saw on FB today. This was ~10 years before I ever went but this is how I remember it. That massive glass ceiling is still around, but most of the grenery and decor is long gone.

Castlevania: Rondo of Blood (PC Engine)

I'd never played this one and I get why it's so iconic. Classic Castlevania holds up so well. This one is still tough as nails but the saves/checkpoints are reasonable. We need more of this campy, classic horror done at full volume.

The Beginner's Guide (PC)

Gut-wrenching. This is an ode to and lament for games done in a way only a game can. It speaks to our relationship to one another, but I saw a lot of the fractured self in here as well.

Donkey Kong Bananza (Switch 2)

I was most impressed by the pacing. New mechanics all the way to the end, mixing up short and long levels. I enjoyed it all the way through. Like a lot of modern flaghsip Nin titles there is always a rich experience seconds away from any point - here it was done well.

Death Stranding (PS5)

After I built that first road I could not stop playing. This game is such an interesting blend of ideas. The moment to moment gameplay can be both in-depth/logistical and soothing/meditative. Honestly I loved this story and world. It was wacky, sure, but so earnest.

Hadn't seen this in a few years. It's still great.

I've only beaten Normal Episode 1 so far with a buddy but this game is so great. Feels like all of my reservations/frustrations with MMOs dont apply to PSO. This game does so much with comparatively very little.

Elden Ring Nightreign (PC)

There are some caveats here. You need a basic understanding of Elden Ring. You need two dedicated friends. But when it works, it works like nothing else. There was so much more to this than I thought there would be. It led to some amazing triumphs with my friends.

Deltarune Ch 1-4 (Switch 2)

Seven years later and I'm still obsessed. I think the idea of expanding upon Undertale is cool on its own, but there is nothing else quite like DR to me. Its world resonates so strongly with me. The game is like a box of treats, always surprising and delighting.

Thank you Damien I wish I had opened bluesky and read this three minutes ago

Final Fantasy XVI (PS5)

I enjoyed my time here, but I think there's a reason the action games it's similar to are significantly shorter.

It's tonally weird, like an extra PG-13 Marvel Movie kind of vibe, but I got really invested in the cast. And of course the music was phenomenal.

140 (PC)

An effective showcase of the ever-popular "show dont tell" school of game design. I think the mimimalism here has character, which isn't easy to do. A good challenge and duration too. Makes me think about how to do more with less, and it's interesting how this game uses rhythm.

Creepy Redneck Dinosaur Mansion 3 (PC)

Gets more true with every game they release - always bet on Strange Scaffold. This one was particularly engaging to me - I'm a sucker for the sort of streamlined checklist game structure here. The character work was fantastic as always too. Fantastic game.

Skilander (PC)

This game rules, and its creative vision comes through so clearly. Skiing is pretty jank but that's the whole thing - playing and prodding at it until you get good at it feels fun. That last level is a doozy.

Lunacid: Tears of the Moon (PC)

No matter what tool or tech, Kira's ability to use atmosphere to get to the player remains amazing. ToTM makes me want to go back and play the KF games immediately. This was a great experience that was also approachable and full of secrets. Man, I loved the ending.
