Sadly Gorey #parkrun called off this morning at 8am due to waterlogged course. #stormclaudia

Will be back next week.

Took out a month’s membership at the local leisure centre. Had my first swim in a 25m pool for over 5 years. Found it difficult to do even two lengths but eventually completed 16 such efforts with a short rest between each interval. Luxuriated after in the health spa.

Well done to the 159 park runners and walkers who participated in Gorey #parkrun today. And thanks to the volunteers who made it happen. I was on finish tokens today.

Naturalists recommend you don’t tidy your garden in autumn too much for the sake of the wildlife. Here’s why. Goldfinches feeding on rudbeckia seed heads next to our patio this lunchtime. Beautiful birds. Photo taken through the patio door hence the slight blurriness

This is my cat Bertie. He will only sit on my lap. He is very nervy and can be unpredictable even with me. You have to carefully watch for signs .

A frustrating week for exercise. Two one mile lots of gentle walking with one or two 15 seconds of jogging thrown in. Little improvement in pain on outside and back of knee. Definitely soft tissue stiffness and weakness.

Timekeeper at Gorey #parkrun on Saturday. 125 took part in good conditions

I have had a week off all forms of exercise to give my left knee a chance to recover. Swelling has subsided though stiffness remains. Will try walking again tomorrow but no more than a mile. Was a timekeeper at Gorey #parkrun . 120 participants had ideal conditions of cool dry and no breeze.

It’s almost mid October but there are still some interesting pops of colour in our garden including a monster crop of crab apples.

Gorey #parkrun went ahead yesterday #StormAmy having passed through on Friday night leaving very cold and blustery conditions for the 120 participants. Being injured I will be volunteering for the foreseeable future. The finish volunteers needed to be well wrapped up!

A very cool wet and windy morning at Gorey #parkrun yesterday did not put off over a 100 participants and volunteers. Once running it’s never quite as bad as it looks from the comfort of somewhere dry. Not a day for an annual best but a comfortable 28:07 and fifth overall on age graded times.

Had 4 days rest, 2x daily massage of right calf with DMSO, taken ibuprofen & worn a calf compression sleeve. Result is a Sunday morning walk jog with no pain in my right calf! Yesterday I volunteered at Gorey #parkrun as timekeeper. We had our local TD (mp) and a minister Tom Chambers take part.

My walks up & down Croagh Patrick captured on Garmin. Sadly I was injured by the walk down. Although my knees were aching during the descent I found yesterday that I have a strain in my right calf and will be having a rest from running. I am volunteering at Gorey #parkrun on Saturday.

Having a mini break over in Westport. Yesterday swam 900 metres front crawl in the hotel pool. Today climbed Croagh Patrick. 2 hours up and 2 1/4 hours back down. Knees very achy after the 2400 feet climb and descent. Not sure will do #parkrun on Saturday. See how legs are tomorrow.

This weekend I was timekeeper at Gorey #parkrun along with Adrian. We did well and kept perfectly in sync with the tokens volunteer so no issues with the results.

Today I did my usual fortnightly Sunday sprint session 8 x 400m with 60 secs walking rest. It went really well. VO2 max went up 1 to 43

I made an attempt to do a year’s best at Gorey #parkrun yesterday. I wanted to do a sub 27 minutes following my year best 27:14 two weeks ago.

I failed and managed 27:25 even though about half way I was on the correct pace. I felt a lack of energy and struggled to the end. Garmin captured it well

Talking about modern technology, there must be a more effective way to cut the grass than using a scythe, a rake and a wheelbarrow. Excellent upper body workout though.

Hard 4 mile progression run today following Monday’s very slow three mile recovery run. My app said the workout was productive! Certainly felt like it. My Garmin app is telling me I ought to be able to do a #parkrun in 25:40. Still way off that in reality. Maybe by year end if can stay uninjured

Very happy after today’s Gorey #parkrun. Had a plan to run as close to 8:50/mile pace to get a new annual best. Achieved a time of 27:13 running at 8:48/ mile. Came 8th out of 170 on age graded times. No I’m not competitive! Training is having results.

A big week for end of life planning. Fresh wills and expressions of wishes composed (but not yet executed). Two burial plots paid for in a local woodland burial ground with wonderful views over nearby mountains. Funeral songs chosen by both of us. Hoping we live a long long time!
