The Dutch’s short tenure in Taiwan (1624-1662) has everything to do with the historic China tea trade and how the Dutch introduced tea to Europe.
It was the Dutch who created a market for tea in France and England and all of Europe.

Fun fact: the Dutch set up Fort Amsterdam (today’s NYC) the same year they set up Fort Zeelandia in Taiwan: 1624.
Maps look similar, and the Dutch Wall is the only thing that remains in Fort Zeelandia (same wall idea as Manhattan’s Wall Street)
