In time for Halloween! I love getting inspiration from the forest. It’s amazing what you find. I couldn’t shake the idea that something might live in the hollowed out trees, and perhaps didn’t quite hide away before the first light it? It’s arm outstretched to catch the odd crayfish.

As @decastell.bsky.social says, the super #SecretSciFiNovel is done and sent. My sardonic humour and merciless take on the science, paired with Sebastien’s emotionally charged characters and humanity. What could go wrong in space? Turns out an awful lot.

The Science of… St Patrick’s Day? While St. Patrick used the three-leafed shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity, its four leaf cousin is the one you want. Why so rare? In order to grow that extra leaf, two copies of a recessive gene are required. The frequency? 1 in 10,000.

The Science of Science Fiction: Life imitating art. Did you know that the term ‘Genetic Engineering’ was lifted from SF? First coined by Jack Williamson in 1951, the first appearance was in the novel ‘Dragon’s Island’. From science fiction to job description for MBB and Biochem grads everywhere!

2/2 This (literally) brainless organism has a savant like knack for problem solving and network optimization. It’s uncanny ability to navigate complex environments and find the most optimal path (sans brain) has researchers curious if they can one day game this organism to model crime scenes.

What inspires my writing this week? Here’s some visually monstrous inspiration from a long suffering evolutionary companion who truely can’t live without us :-) from the Nikon small worlds competition www.nbcnews.com/mach/science...

I’m positive this does nothing to create opportunity, decrease financial stress, or improve business. Plus it looks silly. God I hate performative politics.

My reading has been eclectic this week, but oddly (and thematically) red!

Was at OryCon over the weekend- highlights were being on a lively panel discussion on pandemics and walking by this exhibit accidentally!

Posting more of my reading list and what I’m enjoying. This is a fun one. Comedic fantasy has been my jam lately 😎 Anyone else read/reading? FYI- This is a library read via Libby.

Seems like a spectacular time to point out that I write spooky. Grunge ghosts, malevolent spirits, zombies, and a big helping of witchcraft 🧙‍♀️. What’s not to like? 👻💀🧟‍♀️?

You have yet to search for ‘Victorian Christmas cards’. I like the one with the blind mice feasting on the cat. I’m certain there’s a penis in the archives somewhere!
