Today's #ProgrammeForGovernment falls short of what we need to create a #WellbeingEconomy in Scotland where everyone can thrive.

By taking an axe to underfunded welfare programmes, the UK Government's Spring Statement is repeating the mistakes of the past.

It’s deeply concerning to hear of cuts to social security ahead of today’s Spring Statement. Social security should be a safety net and spring board to support all of us when we need it. Right now it’s failing. We need an economy that is centred on justice and compassion where everyone can thrive.
Ahead of today's Spring Statement, we are calling on the Chancellor to put justice and compassion at the heart of her budget choices. We deserve an economy that takes care of us and that uses our collective wealth to look after everyone.

🚨 Today’s announcement is alarming.

It’s true, our social security system needs an urgent update.

But cutting disability benefits is not the way to fix it.

Disabled people are already three times more likely to face hunger. Huge cuts risk pushing more people to food banks.

The proposed cuts to disability benefits are unacceptable and immoral, full stop.

And if the big cuts come from PIP, the impact on the SG's budget will also be massive.

The next SG will have to cut disability payments too or fill the gap and find the money on a fixed budget.

Yesterday's #ScottishBudget brought some welcome measures that are a step in the right direction.

But we must move beyond expensive sticking plaster solutions and use the full budgetary powers to enable our communities to thrive.

Imagine a Scotland where every child grows up free from poverty. Where our hospitals/schools have the resources to care for all, where we’re tackling the climate crisis head-on.

A fairer tax system can help make it a reality.

That's why we're backing #TaxJusticeScotland

At a time when energy prices are already unaffordable for many and household budgets are under increasing strain, many breaking, this is very concerning.

It is unacceptable that right now people are struggling to afford the essentials just to survive. We need to see systemic, lasting change.
Any increase in energy costs is really bad news. Prices are totally unaffordable for so many & energy debt keeps rising.

In this bitterly cold weather people are cold & worried. We urgently need to fix the broken energy markets - social tariffs & debt write offs.

Ofgem energy price cap: Typical bill to rise in January
It means someone paying by direct debit and using a typical amount of energy will pay £21 more a year.

🚨 122,000 emergency food parcels were provided by food banks in the Trussell community in Scotland in just 6 months.

1 in 3 of these were for children.

No child in Scotland should be facing hunger - we need urgent action to address this & ensure everyone can afford the essentials
