@chapman.wiki
I enjoy writing and problem-solving in Christian thought at https://chapman.wiki, with a focus on conspiracism, polarisation, and human sexuality. I've an M.Div, and a curious collection of interests.

My other channel is @eukras.bsky.social, on web dev.
Is groups.io the best modern groups-discussions-over-email service? (Like YahooGroups and eGorups before that.) Or if not, what is? #group #email #discussion #recommendation
Groups.io | Email Discussion Groups & Listserv Alternative
Groups.io is a modern email group service and listserv alternative with no ads. Create mailing lists with calendars, files, wikis, and more. Better than Google Groups or Yahoo Groups.

Russell Crowe was recently seen explaining the joys of Test #Cricket on Rogan. I'm hoping a few Americans tuned in for the bonkers two-day #Ashes test just now concluded up in Perth.

"By Love Serve." A stained glass window in St John's Anglican Church in Darlinghurst, Sydney, Australia. More of this, please.

Bible Rocket can index #Bible references in English and French text, and link them to your preferred translations and sources on the Bible Gateway website. It's a little demo of mine for the `refspy` #python library.

A few days now until the anniversary of the #JFK assassination. What does your JFK #Conspiracy Spectrum look like?

A little game for #theology types. Which doctrinal statement from the last 500 years has the following distribution of Bible references?

While approving of the liberation theology buzz on Bluesky, I've wondered if it has been helped by unfamiliarity with 'normal' theology. The Catholic Catechism says care for the poor is "a debt of justice" -- not mercy. And on Evangelical premises, Jesus or Amos will get you that same idea.

A little article about adding reflection on science to Baptist ministry training. The nicely multivalent painting is "Doubting Thomas" by Mark Tansey.

I say, @christophniemann.bsky.social is on here. (Yes, yes, I know everybody will get here eventually). His episode of the #design show Abstract was one of my favourites.

It's interesting to chart out what parts of the Bible different credal statements or articles tend to emphasise. Here's the Danvers Statement (1987, left) on Complementarianism, and @margmowczko.bsky.social's 'The Biblical Basis of Egalitarianism in 500 Words' (2022, right). #Christian #Theology

Clerics investigate murder! But of these two, it's @richardcoles.bsky.social who gives them a compelling inner life. And, unlike many modern writers -- especially of TV adaptations -- it's a mystery not a drama, meaning there really are enough clues to say "Argh, I should have guessed" at the end.

When I edited a book on Christian belief in conspiracy theories in 2022, one of the best ideas for conversations was @mickwest.com 's conspiracy spectrums, designed to be drawn on a napkin. I've been messing with them ever since, partly to save the world, and partly because its a fun UX challenge.

Two interestingly different visions of journalism in the USA, each moreso for what they leave out.
Bari Weiss’s CBS News and MSNBC both just laid out their new journalistic principles — and they’re fascinatingly different
CBS: "America," "American," "all of the tools of the digital era," and speed. MSNBC: Press freedom, the First Amendment, and ethics.

How many #NewTestament #manuscript photos are in the public domain? Seems like an odd qn for such old documents, but they don't seem to exist on GitHub/WikiMedia. I'm wanting to make a little online reader app for educational purposes and as a UX/UI experiment.

For Christians, doing conspiracy theories well means exposing evil without committing slander.

Christians, Conspiracies, and Slander by Nigel Chapman
This seems to be a reason why conspiracy theories are so disruptive in churches. Making public accusations guarantees that either one side or the other will be wrong at a moral level, whether throu…

Q. What are the good online #mindmap tools? Ideally something that can attach text to nodes and produce whole documents. (I'm liking mindmeister, of those I've tried, though I haven't yet found the keystroke to edit the current node.)

Here's an interesting long read on #Evangelical fracturing in the USA: it makes the interesting point that it's not just positions but 'posture' that drive divisions, that is to say, not just being affectively or ideologically polarised, but it's also behaving in sharply different ways in response.

Evangelicalism's fracturing is chronic, but not terminal. Keller Center staff Skyler R. Flowers and Michael Graham offer wisdom on how we can move forward.

I'm looking forward to Zondervan's _Five Views on #NaturalLaw_, out later this month. Evangelical versions have been driven a bit more by politics than by Evangelical methods and sources, IMHO. And the Catholic versions seems like a beautiful penthouse with no elevators or stairs to get there.
