I sometimes fail to recognize it, but I'm pretty sure that _this_ is the dream, and I'm living it. Damn.

If you want a place to start:

“In my game [the gameplay or story goal is this] and you do it by [describe the game loop].”

I’ve seen so many devs fail to articulate that and/or show it in their trailers.

Usually at best they just describe the game loop to which I ask: “So what’s the goal?”

The reason crafting is in every game now: It's like money laundering for game designers

Let me explain.

Some days I miss being told exactly what to do. What code to write, systems to focus on, bugs to prioritize.

Then I very quickly remember that what annoyed me most at work, was people who didn't know as much as I did making those decisions.

I chose this solo indie gig. I gotta choose to love it.

Lessons from today's prototyping meetup #gamedesign

1. Build the middle of your game first. Can you play your own game for 40-60 minutes? Then figure out how to teach that. Tutorials reveal the known fun, they don't find the fun.

I've been working on a new feature. The systems that are already present didn't support it, so they had to be stretched a bit

It took a bunch of (proverbial) hair-pulling but when it finally worked it was SO SATISFYING

This satisfaction is the exact feeling that I would like for my games to elicit

I had an important realisation today:

I thought that the way that I worked was wrong, because I saw everyone else working differently.

Today I realised that they all work that way out of necessity, and being able to work in the way I do is a luxury.

Proverbial weight off my proverbial shoulders.
