Increasingly Peterborian, mum, cyclist, bit odd but friendly enough. Failing to learn Portuguese. Especially interested in refugee issues/migration/human rights. She/her.
Slightly after the border? At the point of the section 95 application perhaps. You're on the phone to Migrant Help and they tell you they'll send a courier along to collect your valuables 🙄

Going to leave you with a Home Office chart from their most recent asylum stats so you can decide whether the UK is a magnet for asylum seekers with a uniquely generous asylum system www.gov.uk/government/s...

Syrians who have lived here, learned new languages, adapted & become part of new places, built lives, careers & homes with us here, are dreaming of walking down their own streets again 😭❤️

Let anyone who tells you refugees want anything other than to return home be SILENT now.

This is despite them clearly having contact details for the person because e.g. they are in HO asylum support accommodation or in prison. It's so ridiculously unfair to make decisions like this.

I've seen several cases where the SCA made a negative decision without asking for any further information and then apparently decided they didn't have the means to communicate that decision so there is no way for the potential victim to know or find about challenging it.

Never mind the PTSD, depression, risk of re-trafficking or extreme vulnerability from having no family, community, English, IT skills, money, employability skills or knowledge of how anything works. Seeing this all the time. What a state...

I was deliberately not saying the name because it's not great safeguarding to give the address of a group of vulnerable people. It's a distance to supermarkets, charity/community support, churches, mosques and colleges. At least this one has a co-op nearby.

Probably more just that it's in the news so they have to be seen to be doing something about it. Paul Bristow is already trying to use it as he did the Great Northern.

No, another one in addition to the Great Northern, opened at the same time and still open.

The existing asylum hotel in Peterborough is also over a mile from the city centre with no local facilities either. But nobody's been making a fuss about that one which has been open for 2 years now. What's the difference with this one? It's just in a nicer location.
