Red often equals violence or dramatic scenes, sometimes late night interiors. Though the red I’ve seen is much more ruby red than the dark red you’ve provided. It often photographs orange with digital cameras. Below an example with stenciled color I photographed on a light box.

Illustrated Film poster for THE WIND (1928). Lillian Gish’s character is wearing a house dress and is curled under a window, her body turned toward the wall. Her face is turned toward the open window, her eyes wide in terror. Through the open window we can see the black sky and what seems to be the face of a leering man—-however, how he is illustrated makes it unclear if he is physically there, elements of him are untwined with the wind which is show to pushing through the window above Gish. The film’s title seems to be riding this gust of wind.

Marie Dressler in the title role of “Emma”, is seen as a matronly older woman who is browsing magazines at a newsstand. She selects one called “French Models” which has an art deco silhouette of a woman on the front. When she opens it, she sees photographs of scantily clad models, in near nudity. Emma’s eyes bulge in shock and she quickly shuts the magazine and shoves it back into the stand.
