Since the national standards are already 400ft, that would make it upwards of 10 mins to a stop if we assume it goes up to 800ft. If we can achieve even 50% higher spacing like NYC, we would only be at 300ft, a better national standard and still in the bottom of the U.S.

Absolutely, we need accessibility discussions and I'd be shocked if CDOT didn't do extensive outreach on the matters (they already do). However, looking at Seattle's spacing, I can absolutely see why removing a stop can be detrimental, since yall are 400 ft vs Chi 225.

NYC's bus stop spacing is 50% higher than Chicago's. We have the second lowest mean spacing in the country: findingspress.org/article/2737...

Those who take transit for mobility aid reasons absolutely deserve fast buses and getting to work or doctor on time if applicable.

By Ayush Pandey, Lewis Lehe & 1 more. Overall mean bus stop spacing in the US is 313 meters. Las Vegas' RTC has the widest mean spacing (482 m) and Philadelphia's SEPTA the narrowest (214 m).

absolutely - there are some bus stops which are purposefully placed right in front of retirement homes, transit connections, and hospitals, they absolutely should stay! but its okay to wonder if we need bus stops every 300ft downtown

Do you live in Chicago? I don't own a car and rely on buses for all you listed - these close spacings can be really frustrating. We have the closest bus stops in the entire country and it means a 1 mile ride can take 20 minutes. We can achieve accessibility and service together.

Can also upgrade the remaining bus stops heavily

Yes, but it had those 55 min headways on lock

Wishing that I didn't have the cultural upbringing of cars and used the bus way more often. I could go to so many places without the need of a ride or my own vehicle.

The South Side LFT is SO underrated and the architecture in Pullman/Bronzeville is insane.

once you realize there are no rules and you can go as slow as you want, running just becomes a way to walk around and explore a neighborhood faster

he was genuinely stumped and said he'd have to get back to me on that

I spoke to an IDOT rep abt the oak st curve and asked him if speeding was the main reason for car crashes, he agreed, then I asked if people are more likely to speed on straight lines, he agreed, then I asked if both are those are true, how does straightening the curve make the street safer?

once you realize there are no rules and you can throw down a 12-13-14 minute mile, you're suddenly a runner

November 13, 2025 at 1:49 PM
visited a place where the former owners ripped out the original wooden fireplace and turned it into a florida condo only for them to *gasp*, move to florida
