As Republicans try to justify their rampant Constitutional violations, my only hope is that the Supreme Court will see this for what it is: a disgraceful attempt by far-right actors to assume even more unchecked power.

Miyares has proved, time and time again, that he is nothing more than a lapdog of Trump and the MAGA movement.

It's become painfully obvious that he cares more about currying favor with the President than he does about his constituents.

Instead of advocating for Virginians, fighting to protect their rights, and standing up to the President's gross abuses of power, our Attorney General is fighting to give him even more.

It's not only shameful — it's terrifying.

Just hours after Miyares bragged about his amicus brief on Twitter, Trump admitted something we'd all suspected: he'd mistakenly deported someone, with no way to bring him back home to his family.

Due process isn't just some obscure legal term — we're talking about people's lives, their safety, and their ability to be with their loved ones. When Trump, Miyares, and their cronies violate these rights, entire communities become less safe.

Miyares and his gang of far-right extremists want to give Trump, who has already expanded his powers far beyond those of any other President, even more authority to ignore the due process rights of both American citizens and immigrants.

There is only one reason for these guns to be unserialized, or for their owners to not be subject to background checks: to make it easier to commit crimes.

These guns are used almost exclusively to commit crimes, with step-by-step kits shipped straight to the doors of individuals who can't legally own a firearm. That includes minors, people with violent criminal histories, and those suffering from mental health crises.

This isn't a small problem. In 2017, law enforcement officers seized 1,600 ghost guns that were used to commit crimes. In 2021, they seized 19,000 — more than 10x the amount they had just 4 years prior.

Our far-right extremist Governor Glenn Youngkin saw a white officer who was convicted of a crime that resulted in an unarmed black man being killed — and he decided to interfere to score political points at the expense of the victim, his family, and our community.
"[Governor Youngkin] saw that he had the opportunity to help himself at the expense of other people, and that's what he did."

I've been sounding the alarm bells for years now: Governor Sweater-Vest is trying his hardest to imitate the far-right extremist in the White House.

The shameful, unjust, craven political stunts of Gov. Youngkin have no place in Virginia.
A short while ago, Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin commuted the sentence of former Sgt. Wesley Shifflett, who was sentenced to 3 years of incarceration on Friday.

"I'm outraged at Youngkin's decision tonight," said CA Descano.

"Glenn Youngkin has spent the last four years honing his Trump impersonation, and now he's following in his footsteps by commuting sentences just to score political points. This is an insult to all Virginians who value an untainted justice system."

Wrongful convictions can destroy lives — ripping innocent people away from their families for a crime they didn't commit.

And when that happens, the real perpetrator avoids accountability and can remain a threat to our community's safety.

When we let wrongful convictions stand, innocent people are left in prison for crimes they didn't commit — while the real offender evades accountability and remains a threat to our community.
We know that the criminal legal system isn't perfect — and when mistakes are made, our community loses confidence in it.

That's why our Conviction Integrity Unit is so important: not only to remedy past injustices, but to build back public trust in our legal system.
