You really could just put a tight camera on John Candy with nothing but him and the driver's seat of a car in frame and then watch him almost wordlessly do five of the funniest minutes in the history of movies.

False claims - including this one - circulate on here and on Meta’s platforms. But it is strategically brain dead for the government not to be trying to move politicos away from X, where this stuff circulates straight into political commentary freely and where the owner hates and opposes you.
I spoke to a few people, including journalists, at Labour conference who had seen and believed claims on X that Multiverse – Tony Blair's son's company – had been chosen to run the government’s new digital ID scheme

@fullfact.org have checked this claim and it is untrue

Support this, both for 'why do we have a civil service internship scheme if NOT to broaden the talent pipeline for it' reasons and for 'this is going to produce some truly amazing takes' reasons.

Londoners and, no doubt, visitors to the capital from elsewhere in the UK and around the world cower in fear beside the River Thames as crime continues to "spiral out of control". (warning: traces of sarcasm detected). #london #farage #jenrick #lionesses #england

Domestic violence is a major threat to women around the world but it is also a warning sign for political violence. And yet, it rarely gets the political attention it deserves and requires.
Two in five arrested for last summer’s UK riots had been reported for domestic abuse
Police data indicates overlaps between public violent disorder and domestic violence and abuse

@tristancorkpost.bsky.social hey Tristan

We The Curious today, visitors hugely misled, provoked and disrespected by Acorn Union 'protest' which was ill informed and entirely unreasonable.

How can a respected educational charity venue be held to ransom by such a misguided organisation?

Unfortunately couldn't make the launch event today but this is such important work from the IFS (who have done years of work on it) on the benefits of Sure Start. A new programme is a no-brainer for govt -
At its peak, Sure Start cost around £2.7bn per year (in today's prices).

We estimate that over the long run, it might generate £2.4bn in savings for government per cohort.

Including wider benefits like higher earnings, total long-run benefits could be twice the cost.
