How is “we want to give you healthcare” not an appeal to interest?

Similar to Kolcanes getting fired the discourse immediately goes from tedious and exhausting to “hmmm, maybe”

Yeah, I was thinking about this in response to the “8 Mile” framing so many people reach for in their memoirs. I also grew up poor and had personal travails but I was also the first born son of some pretty dedicated parents and a whole community pulling for me. But that all can sit together.

It’s such a consistent reply, and I don’t get how they don’t see it. I mean, actually, I do, they believe that marginalized people are defined and limited by their marginalization without any particular lens or thought outside of it. They’re here to “helpfully” enlighten us on universality.

You see this a lot from professors and hell, politicians too, going out of their way to separate themselves from their “woke” colleagues.

This is a common appeal people make, “they actually deserved it, unlike those ‘DEI' people,” etc., and can anyone tell me who it has worked for so far?
