Ian McDonald's "Hopeland" as my Labor Day Weekend treat. Once we move to a home in the country and meet a great uncle named Auberon, I think this is the first novel I've read directly influenced by John Crowley's "Little, Big." I go online to see that Paul Di Filippo noticed the same thing.

Interesting: a lot of f/sf people are here, but the mystery writers I follow on Twitter are still on X. Any thoughts on why?

After my mother's death in May, I found myself reading things that felt absolutely compelling. I realized I read no sf this summer. So that's my goal for Labor Day weekend. I'm eyeing Ann Leckie's "Translation State" and Ian McDonald's "Hopeland." Is there something else that would fit the bill?
