Data Viz Question: I am trying to visualize relative references in speeches between entities (here German federal states referencing one another). Problem is that scales of reference are very different, so heatmaps look a bit funny. Anyone have a suggestion on alternatives/ adjustments? Draft below.

Hey reviewers, don’t do this. Please do point out the flaws, including with the writing. But this is not the way to do it.
(Though this is likely the only context in which I still get mistaken as young enough to be a student, so maybe I should take it as a sign of my youthfulness)

In general, people from former East Germany are less popular, but so are people from states that are net recipients of equalization funds. But we also see a huge difference by East and West German respondents. Only one thing everyone agrees on: People from Berlin are the worst

Today is German Unity Day. But how unified is Germany? To celebrate, I want to share some data from a project with @lenamasch.bsky.social, @jos38.bsky.social and Antonios Souris on how "popular" people from different German states are - and how this evaluation differs. Here is it for everyone:

Using indepth qualitative coding of parliamentary debates at the state and federal level during the Corona Pandemic, we show that 1) especially parties with government responsibility "pass the buck" to other levels of government and 2) use this primarily to target partisan competitors.

Really excited about #EPSA2024.
But the fee structure gives me pause. Charging graduate students with few resources and few travel funds less than full professors with large budgets isn't discriminatory. It just recognizes that resources aren't equally distributed.

Looking forward to two days of talks and panels at the WinRa inauguration conference.
I’ll be joining a panel tomorrow to talk about the methods and concepts for the study of racism and discrimination.
