no one of consequence. professional cybersecurity person and failed academic. queer feminist wittgensteinian artist who values privacy and is inspired by people.
god yes. every few months ostensibly left/progressive people just unload a barrage of fatphobic / racist / sexist / homophobic shit in the name of lolling about terrible people. this is not the way!

this point is so correct that if one finds oneself doubting any part of it, they need to go back to the drawing board and try again until they realize the totality of its correctness. it's like rock bottom truth.

ppl love NYC, they even love wandering around downtown. they don't like shit.

meet john doe flirts with the same, but a bit darker (;.

(probably no one *needs* the can't win all-is-spin despair of that film these days, but at least it has barbara stanwyck!)

it's a disgrace.
November 9, 2025 at 11:45 PM
yes! i saw it yesterday, still swimming around in it a bit. there's a chance the thoughts will never go anywhere (i'm not sure how much i trust the depths of lanthimos), but letting the film play with my expectations for 2 hours + some great acting, "real america" h korine shots, etc, great!

requiring workers to smile should be considered a 1st amendment violation if not more.

nothing we say makes sense if we don't value consent, and nothing we do is legible in american society if we do value consent. (give or take:))
November 8, 2025 at 9:16 PM
America's bizarre relationship with consent (it's the first principle that's utterly necessary for any logic of justice and freedom, and our whole economic and social structure is based on bypassing or violating consent) does appear to be at the heart of... well, everything, IMO.

writing about whether or not to "revisit 2000" when someone is saying where they would locate a turning point if they "were writing history" is pretty wild. why do you think you did that?
November 7, 2025 at 10:39 PM
(most people seem to start with reagan, and i don't think they get the point that a lot of what's clearly bad about reagan that people weirdly treat as new has always been here, while the pump and dump legacy of the 80s that *was* new didn't just appear from his evil; it grew from relaxed checks)

carter (and deregulation) is always my go-to in "how we got here," conversations. obviously history has been contributing to our present moment since before the american revolution, but the financialization->globalization->neoliberalism that's currently destroying us really took off with carter.

pioneers in vaguely defined, deeply ill-conceived field think some trivially untrue thing.

yeah, whenever they do this "it will be all tacos / it will be all indian or african food" i'm like, you understand that people love food right?

obama ran on a similar thing, incidentally, but i think his whole deal was a lot more abstract and complicated (in a bad way). running on grievances can work too of course, but running on grievances *that some positive joy is being restrained* works prettttty well. and freeze rent.

he likes the city, and the people who support him also like (or want to like) the city. they knocked on doors because they want the city run in a way that makes you knock on doors. it almost sounds vacuous, but it's not. community is powerful.

i'm not sure if i'm just a millennial (cough, cybersecurity professional), but i still think Mamdani dodged a bullet with that. permanent statements made in your teens and twenties can go either way, no matter how awesome and caring you are now or were then, IMO.

this is a take so bad that you should consider, like, a graceful apology/correction post to avoid being dismissed around the issues you actually know about.

they should be at best a temporary employee, at worst a partner. if you can't even get "partner" and it's more "wizard making an outcome for you where you don't even understand your/their role in making it happen," you are probably throwing your money away.
