Metrolink's hyperlocal governance is undemocratic. As a Riverside resident, all the capital projects that improve service for me are in other counties. I can't vote out the people making the decisions on these projects and they have no incentive to listen to me.

Imagine how much better e.g. U.S. climate policy & urban planning would be with everyone spending a year or two actually living abroad, or at least visiting (sans cruise ship or similar capsule thinking).
Subject for another time, but *living* outside the US, for at least 6 months at a stretch but preferably 1 -2 years or more, is incomparably enlightening. In many cases more "affordable," because longer stays usually involve some kind of job, an exchange program, etc.
