I've talked about this before, but A People's History of the United States. I was ~12 and here was a book that said "adults can lie, ask more questions, and history is told with an agenda." regardless of the book's actual conclusions (I don't remember well so can't say), a life-changing message

As someone who's been personally fucked over by the supreme court in the past week (X passport holder in the middle of a name change)-reasonable reporting on this was important! things are bad enough we don't need to make up things to be afraid of
