While not everything can be solved with a song in your heart in the real world, a story set in a fictional setting can still inspire and ignite a passion in one's heart, to feel that it needs to resolve things "realistically" shows signs of cynicism.

Anyway that's all I wanted to say, sorry. I don't like making posts like this. I've just had this bottled up since last night and I needed to put it somewhere.

I say all this as someone who constantly tries to stay optimistic in the face of *gestures vaguely at the world* while it feels like everyone else just wants to tear that away.

That's why Vaggie is always there to try (successfully or not) to keep her grounded.

Do we want to see Charlie become jaded and miserable? No.

Learning the limits of where optimism can get you is important, but that doesn't mean discarding it entirely.

Her arc is repeatedly learning why that doesn't always work, but still trying to stay optimistic despite that.

And she IS learning, even if she still makes some very bad and dangerously naive decisions (read: train tracks). >>
