Hi, I don't know if you're still looking but I talked to my friend's voice coach in Andersonville who was doing an event tonight because I randomly remembered your post. They said they can give a few names if you want to reach out or want me to. Let me know. I can reach out or give you their email.

But people don't know about these places. I had to do a lot of research to find them. But could they be more well known? Could enough people crowdsource a map where people can look up zip codes or neighborhoods and find the local resources that people can benefit from and donate to? Thoughts?

There are places like this all around the city. Used bookstores, even a free bookstore in the city sourced from donations, Books4cause. The WasteShed has a city location as well. There are charity thrift shops and free gender affirming closets or homeless / migrant closets, all with donated clothes.

This is a mile away from the school I work at. It is a block away from a popular shopping center with a grocery store, many fast food places, etc. Yet when I bring it up to coworkers, nobody knows it. A place where teachers could get things cheaply, or where they could direct low-income families.

Near me, there's a store called The WasteShed. They sell donated craft supplies, including art and school supplies. Most stuff is less than $2. On top of these excellent prices, they have educator discounts and a free-for-teachers section. They have hours that work for nearby working people.

In this talk about boycotts, we're not seeing much about alternatives. We should talk about the lack of posting community-based alternatives to big business that are often less expensive than big brands, especially when buying used is an option.

My friend sees Seth K. Lowery at The Voice Lab. They're a nonbinary coach and my friend is a trans woman so the rec is coming from a place of knowledge.

I'm pretty sure my friend sees someone in Andersonville. Let me check with her and get back to you.

You can still organize virtual social events with friends. Even if they are local. This way you can hang out with your friends who have kids. Or they have limited mobility or they can’t risk getting sick rtc. Hanging out together online IS still social contact. I did a NYE zoom even.
