Canada and northern US getting lucky again with the aurorae lottery. Hope we can have some here in the UK...if not only for the pesky rainy weather. LOL.

Frustrating to see events like this happen and then you have rain, all day in the UK. 🥲

Was actually hoping to see the aurora here in Devon, but nope. It's all cloudy and potential rain. Ugh.

Anyway, consoling myself with this test image of the aurora from May 2024.

More details on the close up image.

You can see stellar forces at work here. Absolutely mindblowing image. We truly live in the age where everyday, there is a new horizon to be seen.

It's fascinating to observe Japan and their disaster preparedness measures - from sensors that detect earthquakes and tsunami miles away, breakwaters installed along their harbours to tsunami evacuation towers. Japan is definitely the gold standard in this category.

These towers are located strategically in coastal cities and towns - all are equipped with enough emergency supplies to last 24 hours until rescue has reached them or the waters receded.

Noticed during the NHK Japan coverage of the July 29 tsunami that there was a singular tower where people gathered. Turns out that these towers are the so-called "tsunami evacuation towers" which have been adopted in greater numbers after the 2011 Tohuku earthquake / tsunami.

JMA (Japan Meteorological Agency) tsunami warning infographic. Notice how simple and readable their infographic is.

Japan's Pacific facing coast is under tsunami warning which means they are expecting waves as high as 3 metres (9 feet), hence, their pre-emptive evacuation.

One astrophoto away, keeps the stress away. Well, we need more one nowadays! 😅

Here's one of the many zoomed in images from COSMOS-Web project, JWST. Still working on to identify the galaxies in the photo.

Curious to see this object. What are you?

Are you a:

Stellar jet?
Merged galaxy?
Black hole?
Gravitational lensing?

I am so fascinated with this one, the bluish purple galaxy in the near center right of the image. What object is this? 🤔

I think I found another hobby: zoomin into the blurries. Looks like I found my first favourite blurry. I don't know what it is either but it fascinates me. I am hoping to identify what this object is (its the bluish purple galaxy in the near center right).
June 25, 2025 at 9:20 AM
This looks like a really young galaxy with numerous other galaxies in its background. I hope that Vera Rubin Observatory would come up with annotated version of this map so that we will know what are the names of these objects.

Using VRO's Skyviewer, this interacting galaxies (if I am not mistaken) is one of the striking features of first image from Virgo Cluster.

Makes me wonder about the stars and planets in those galaxies.
