> So let's stop pushing for another disaster.

Cool! We're in agreement then because I ain't pushing for more LRT anytime soon.

Nor am I engaging further after this. I've said all that can be said. If you wanna continue wasting energy infighting, you're more than welcome to. I ain't reading it.

At the end of the way what matters is making transit an option for people. It is VITAL we make it reliable and *resilient* to what the future has in store

Line 1 has not shown itself to be resilient, much the opposite

The Transitway though? What's left of it is going strong decades after opening.
November 13, 2025 at 8:45 PM
We have spoken to many councilors now, and they have all been SHOCKED when we tell them about what we have heard from front-line transit employees.

If you wanna talk change, real change, then stop chasing this idea that rail is perfect when it's not.
November 13, 2025 at 8:45 PM
There are literally DRO trainees sitting around doing nothing because we can't train them, so the DROs we *do* have are being worked to the bone and are therefore dropping like flies.

And guess what. Councilors tend not to know about ANY OF THIS. Not a WORD of it.
November 13, 2025 at 8:45 PM
The LINTs are showing their age and lack of maintenance.

We didn't buy enough FLIRTs.

Line 2 wasn't double tracked, so it's already overcapacity.

There's a chronic diesel rail operator (DRO) shortage made worse by the trainers' certifications all expiring at once, ie. we can't train more DROs.
November 13, 2025 at 8:45 PM
Now Alstom and RTG are bickering blaming each other for the problems line 1 is facing because neither of them want to foot the bill despite the problems being both their fault.

How much money do you think we will end up spending in the future fixing the alignment? Replacing the wheels? The rails?
November 13, 2025 at 8:45 PM
Line 1's alignment is horrible and it's wreaking havoc on the wheel assemblies of the Spirits. How much money do you think has been sunk into that?

The Spirits also have barely more capacity than the buses they replaced because they aren't meant for the service we use them for.
November 13, 2025 at 8:45 PM
We don't have enough buses because we fumbled fleet management, and Renee Amilcar lied to council about the issue, instead pinning it on a practically non-existent operator "shortage."

We don't have enough mechanics because the work environment is toxic, the pay is bad, and the hours are horrible.

Ridership is actually recovering post-COVID.

The only thing in free fall is the state of our network overall because of chronic neglect, underfunding, flat out lying from... previous GMs, and a lack of communication between OC and council.
November 13, 2025 at 8:45 PM
Great vid, def recommend a watch to anyone reading this.

As I've said: rail isn't always the answer, bus isn't always the answer. Both have their time and place.

BRT vs LRT is just infighting, ie. a waste of time.

As I keep saying: anything that gets people out of their cars is a win.
November 13, 2025 at 8:10 PM
> occasionally I do take the bus.

Yeahhh, no. I took the 98 every day for years: the entire length of the SE Transitway and beyond.

And guess what. The buses we send there? They don't get stuck in traffic and they're well used! 😱
November 13, 2025 at 7:57 PM
The longer we take to build transit infrastructure, the more we bleed ridership, and the harder the fight becomes.

The Carling BRT is *ready to go.* A delay to it is devastating, and it is a waste of time and energy to sit here debating LRT vs BRT when we need SOMETHING on that corridor *now.*
November 13, 2025 at 7:38 PM
A delay to BRT is a delay to getting people out of their cars.

In another post you said you wouldn't take BRT if it was an option. That, to me, sounds like you will only accept perfection.

You are not going to get far advocating for perfection.
November 13, 2025 at 7:38 PM
Best ex. is pre-NWTB 93, 97, 98, and 99 during peak. Their extensions to Hurdman were EXTREMELY well used. An LRT would not be able to replicate this.

As for the condition of the road, I used to be a regular on the 98, and the roads on the Transitway are in great shape.
November 13, 2025 at 7:38 PM
> We need to use them wisely

Yes, letting them stay stuck in traffic is very wise.

BRT has its time and place. The Transitway was, and still is, hugely successful. The SE Transitway would not work as rail, as one of the main benefits of it is the branching nature of the routes.
November 13, 2025 at 7:38 PM
Rail isn't always the answer.

Buses aren't always the answer.

They each have their own merit, as ANYTHING that gets people out of their cars is a win. We shouldn't let perfection distract us from that.

"Perfection is the killer of progress" as it were.
November 13, 2025 at 7:12 PM
Actually, people notice plenty when there is a drop in bus service; just look at the outcry over NWTB.

Also, anyone who switches their advocacy position for the sake of making their job "easier" ain't doing a good job.

Our goal is better public transit for the city of Ottawa *today.*
November 13, 2025 at 7:12 PM
Very very VERY late, but we welcome everyone from everywhere!! We love hearing from people outside of Ottawa. Our name is TFO simply because we're based in Ottawa :)
November 3, 2025 at 2:39 PM
As they said in their reply, it's a team effort! BTO may be a bit late to the game, but we've, in my opinion, done a damn good job catching up and spreading the message. We would've been the ones tackling Bank St if STO hadn't already.

If you want some insider knowledge: BTO is eyeing Rideau next 👀

Hi, Griffin here! Co-founder of Better Transit Ottawa. I just wanna take a moment to tag @strongtownsottawa.ca who are the ones spearheading the Bank St Bus Lanes campaign. BTO is just supporting them through the project, so go give *them* the love and attention they deserve!!
