“The resource over which they hold custody is of great worth to the country …Would Karl Marx and Virginia Woolf, Mahatma Gandhi and George Orwell, all erstwhile users of the British Library, have produced their masterpieces without this resource?”
Imperilled culture - it really is.
Such negligence.

There has been wonderful support and solidarity for Library workers on the picket line these past two weeks. Today, the writer, Zadie Smith, read out her thoughts about the dispute, the Library, the country, its culture and heritage. Her values, ‘arguments’ and solidarity mean the world to me. 🙏👊🖤♥️

I like to think if this had been an event about Prog Rock it would have gone ahead and thus proving my ‘argument’ about Prog Rock, i.e. thank fuck for Punk!

‘Knowledge is Power’ - and it should come with more £££’s per hour!
Support the striking Library workers in whatever way you can.
Miserly, below inflation wage ‘rises’, year on year are de facto CUTS.
Spread the wealth of this country and pay its workers fairly!!

The risible wages are well-known in the wider field of the library, museum, gallery and archive world. I’d like to think public opinion is with the people who make the place click day-in-day-out; they deserve better.
Knowledge may be free but labour isn’t: spread the wealth and pay the workers!

World Mental Health Day 2025 and Mr Bill Board says, please don’t ever feel so apart from everyone else that you can’t talk with someone - there are lots of people in the world, many of them are good people and can make the difference. Don’t hesitate to message or speak to someone for some good ears

Some people put up sheds, some people put up a fucking flag pole. Such an obnoxious, provocative, aggressive thing to do. It blights our street and has diminished good feeling in our community. I feel dreadful for the people who this ‘erection’ (not our shed) is intended to intimidate and exclude.

Jiangxi Province
China, 1680-1700“ says the Victoria & Albert Museum.
“That’s fucking Bob Dylan!” I say.
