Yes. The situation at NIH is worse than the public realizes.

The #NIH is on track to be effectively ended as a funder of evidence-based research within a year.

That is not an exaggeration. The firings and consolidation announced today will create a new, MUCH worse NIH.

President Trump was afforded due process under the law. Many immigrants caught in his deportation blitz are being denied those same rights.

Hi, I'm the guy who used to oversee the federal government's agency IT telecommunications contracts. This is extremely bad. There is absolutely no need for this. Not only is it a huge security exposure, but the simplest explanation for this is that it is meant to be a security exposure.

This morning, Joe Goldstein has an exclusive look at what research was cut when the Trump administration canceled $400M in federal funding to Columbia. It's not an exhaustive list because the folks at Columbia are still trying to figure out what was cut and what survived. But it's a start. 🧵

I think some in the Senate have convinced themselves that the backlash to folding will be limited to “the left” and therefore ignorable.

Those people are deeply and profoundly misreading the moment and the stakes.

Virtually every swing district House Dem walked the plank to vote NO for a reason.

The coolest thing I’ve seen today is that a bunch of volunteer public health professionals and developers have restored the CDC website from before January 20th 2025.

This differs from an archive in that they want to rebuild the links between pages and replicate the full website.

We survived the week!!!

Highlights:
- no VERA/VSIP yet.
- the FWS is amending competitive areas for a RIF but it’s not clear how.
- FWS was mentioned 2x in the President’s speech to Congress. He announced a name change to a refuge live (I have learned that was a surprise to the refuge involved).

It reads like it was written by an angry teenager. The pettiness of the Administration is filtering down. I am embarrassed about where we are.

So much profound beauty in our world. But it seems the forces unable to see beyond their own wealth, power, and egos are in the ascendant right now.

It's our duty to mind ourselves and each other in these tough times, which may well get much worse. The living world depends on us never giving up. 🌍
