What wasn't mentioned in the NY Times article but IMHO was a big part of the fall in membership and dollars was the drive started pre-Covid to move control from the chapters to National. The initiative to move management of chapter-funded staff to National did not sit well with the largest chapters.

I was on the Sierra Club California ExCom from 2018 to 2022. I largely agree with the points made by the NY Times. I tried to warn the SC leadership that attitudes like yours towards long term volunteers would tank SC revenue as they were providing the bulk of Sierra Club financial support.

60% of Trump voters in 2024 were over 50, and 70% were non-Hispanic whites. But remember he can't do math. You'd think Bessent or Miller would clue him in.

I wonder who Trump thinks the MAGA base is? 60% of his voters in 2024 were over 50, and 78% were white. So when a huge crowd of old white people take to the streets in protest he ought to be worried.

People over 50 made up 60% of Trump's voters in 2024. I hope the GOP continues to insult them. The more old white people I see in No Kings photos, the more I expect Democratic victories in 2026.

Lucky for all beings on the planet that human women everywhere seem to be deciding to have way fewer children.

Oh for F*s sake let’s not fling ourselves head first into our version of a stolen election conspiracy cesspool.

Did you listen to the audio of the Biden/Hur interview? Biden couldn't remember the year Trump won for the first time or the year his son died. Did you read the George Clooney opinion piece on why Biden should drop out of the race in the NY Times?

Tapper has some pretty convincing evidence to back up his opinions including a televised debate performance and the audio of the Biden-Hur interview. Reality is not an opinion.

Attacking anyone who doesn't 100% agree with your party line is Trumpish behavior

We are undergoing our very own cultural revolution. Luckily for us, Trump is no Mao, though in his vindictiveness against his political opponents he bears a striking resemblance to Madame Mao

What a lovely fantasy

Let's not waste energy and focus by going down this pointless road again! Unless we have strong majorities in the house and senate. It only strengthens Trump's narrative of being unjustly persecuted by the deep state.

Maybe Trump wants to show that US Customs isn't up to the job of collecting tariffs so he can put a "special tariff collection agency" on the job and a good part of the tariffs can then go straight into his own pocket. I've thought for awhile that this is one big reason he's so fond of tariffs.

Funny thing is that I suspect it will hurt the Republicans more than the Democrats now that the Republicans are the party of the undereducated. Who is more likely to have a passport, a college-educated woman or a high-school level man?
