The alignment of interests and messaging between IDU parties can be seen most easily, from Canada, by looking at the UK government and Republicans in the US. The UK and Canada, for example, both have governments seeking to end the public healthcare system by introducing private. for-profit medicine. Similarities between the tactics and messaging being used by governments here and there are uncanny, and both countries used the cover of COVID to hasten their privatization efforts. Here, as in the UK, wealthy politicians and their family businesses would be huge beneficiaries of healthcare privatization, and healthcare unions have been weakened by compromising union leadership. Via IDU, members can pull on expertise and partners from other members' networks to advise on achieving the same goals. Koch-aligned Republicans have been successful undermining public education in the US, particularly in Republican states. States like Alabama, for example, have achieved a collapse of public education by using education funds for other purposes, and creating working environments to ensure public schools cannot be staffed. With similar ambitions, Conservative premiers like Doug Ford have tapped into winning strategies and and strategists from Alabama and Arkansas.

With Mr. Harper taking the reins in 2018, IDU members benefited from his infamous long view. Harper had credibility among member states, given what he had achieved in Canada. In a so-called liberal democracy, while he was Prime Minister, national interests had been sold to foreign entities under secret terms, corporate monopolies can freely lobby and donate to essentially write legislation in their own interests, the census had been cancelled, and relaxation of media ownership rules created a media ecosystem was controlled by telco monopolies, oligarchs and ideologically-aligned foreign interests. That these achievements help elect right wing parties by suppressing the vote was not lost on members. Though IDU features "democracy" in the name, a look at the members, especially those recently in government, indicates parties more engaged in achieving and protecting authoritarianism and corporatism than democracy. Member parties include the Republican Party in the US, Hungary's Fidesz party (Viktor Orban), Likud in Israel (Benjamin Netanyahu), the Tories in the UK, and of course the Conservative Party of Canada. (Brazil Union, the current IDU member party from Brazil, is the result of a merger between Bolsonaro's Social Liberal party and Democrats, after Bolsonaro's departure.) Rubbed my eye and came away with half my contact lens.

Did I find the other half in my bed or on the floor? No. Did I find it in my eye? Not that I can see/feel.

Where did it go? I don’t know, I wish I did. I’ll be wondering all day if it’s just floating around behind my eye.
Two quarters of a clear contact lens barely held together at the outer edge is on the palm of a hand that looks very dry. Where is the other half? That is a good question! I wish I had the answer

After losing two chicks to the cold while mama chases chick #1, I saw 2 more were hatching in a cold nest

So today the role of mama hen goes to…. ME!

Kept them warm in my hand, in-front of a heater on low, to hatch them out & get them a little fluffed up while waiting for the incubator to warm

GREEN TOMATO RELISH Wash and slice sufficient green tomatoes to give : 8 cups sliced green tomatoes Mix with 3 tablespoons salt and allow to stand overnight. Drain. In a large saucepan, combine 2 cups cider vinegar 2 cups granulated sugar 3 tablespoons mustard seeds ½ teaspoon celery seeds 1 teaspoon turmeric 3 cups sliced onions Bring to boil and simmer gently 5 min-utes. Stir in drained tomatoes and 2 large sweet red peppers, chopped 1 hot red pepper, chopped Bring to boil and simmer gently 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Pack into hot sterilized jars, and seal. Makes about 5 pints.

Rant in Alt, but this is supposed to be a month’s worth of food and I’m just too fucking sad to scroll today. Ciao for now bsky peeps
A list of foods that I received from the foodbank (which is supposed to last us a month) but since I’m on a medically-required/prescribed liquid diet, this isn’t much more than the ingredients for 2 blender smoothies and maybe 2 soups… time to get creative and try to make this stretch more than a week… because I can’t afford to dehydrate myself anymore with my tears, yeah I said it! This fucking sucks! I will note I’m in Canada, in a rural small town filled with rich white people with giant houses and a homeless pop of 0 because they ran out the last homeless person in the winter for having fires to stay warm. I also have celiac and food allergies. But this is supposed to be food for me PLUS kiddo, who has no food restrictions. We are SURROUNDED by family farms who do donate large amounts of food, but it goes to Foodbanks Ontario (or whatever its called), and it goes largely to the cities which have daily need of fresh food, not this church-run rural one that is only open once a month because it only serves 25 people Infodump/rant over, here’s the list 5 individual apple sauce cups 6 grape juice boxes 2 packages off brand jello -lemon , raspberry 1 package of gluten free wafers 1 box Reeses Cereal 3 500mL water bottles 1 L milk 1 small block of cheese 1 small margarine 1 650g container of (previously frozen and now liquified gelatine-free) yogurt 2 squashed nectarines 4 ripe bananas 1 small moldy (and flowering) head of broccoli 4 mini potatoes eaten by bugs 3 small leaves of Kale crushed in a paper bag 3 carrots 1 can of expired peas 1 can of mushrooms 1 2L box of off-brand chicken broth 1 box Gluten free Bisquick That’s it. End of List.
