But in the end, because of the Maquis' idealist and violent actions that threatened everything Bajor and its allies had achieved thus far, the Federation had to respond with—albeit controversial—force 13/14

The Maquis went against the collective will of the Bajoran masses by denouncing the peace agreement and embarked on a violent crusade instead. The Maquis were clearly more ideologically aligned with anarchism than with Marxism, which ultimately resorted to ultra-leftist extremism 11/14

I'm reminded of this excellent quote by Michael Parenti in his must-read book 𝘉𝘭𝘢𝘤𝘬𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘳𝘵𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘙𝘦𝘥𝘴: 8/14

Was it a perfect solution in response to perfect conditions? Absolutely not. Then again, the material world never provides either. This was even true for the Federation as we witnessed the compromises they had to deal with the farther away they traveled from Federation space 7/14

🧵 As much as I sympathized with the Bajoran's struggle against the Cardassian occupiers in #StarTrek, the Maquis were a prime example of ultra idealism taking precedence over the advancement of material gains 1/14

Has one of my favorite scenes of all time, Leonard McCoy commentating on the barbarity of 20th and 21st century healthcare 😂

🧵 Colonialism wasn't just a violent seizure of land—it was also the destruction of Indigenous modes of production. Food systems, a core part of this, were uprooted to impose capitalist agriculture and erase communal practices that contradicted the logic of private profit. 1/

🧵 W.E.B. Du Bois, in his book Black Reconstruction in America, argues that post-Civil War Reconstruction was a brief moment where the South saw a "dictatorship of the proletariat," led by freed slaves and poor whites who seized political power and sought to transform society.
