Today’s Veterans Day Parade was a powerful reminder of that enduring spirit.

For almost 200 years, Kansas has played a proud role in that legacy — especially here in Leavenworth, home to the oldest active Army post west of the Mississippi and the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College.

Their traditions, stewardship of the land, and commitment to community continue to shape who we are and how we move forward together.

And I spent time with my Uncle Steve Cauble, an optometrist who’s been volunteering at the Lions Club booth all fair long, offering health checks to anyone who stopped by.

I caught up with Daisy, my mom’s insurance agent from El Dorado who has known her for a lifetime. I met two of my sister’s former art students from Maize High—he’s now an accountant, she’s a social worker.

I also thank the first responders and security personnel whose courage kept many safe. This senseless political violence must stop—may we come together in healing and resolve.
