For those of you who run lab groups, consider creating a lab handbook if you don’t already have one. Ideally something all members can contribute to with philosophies, policies, procedures, tips, etc! This could be as simple as a shared google doc or something a little fancier. Need a template […]

Our group, @cct-datascience.bsky.social, was given 30 days notice to be 100% soft-funded. I'll need to drop to 50% time in May or find more projects in order to keep my job. But more importantly, our group is not sustainable under this model.

There was a lot of debate about this, and plenty of good arguments on both sides. The shorter variable names are for more compact code and data display. For those wanting to covert existing scripts to use the #RStats 4.5.0 versions, there’s the new {basepenguins} 📦 ellakaye.github.io/basepenguins

From R 4.5.0, the datasets package includes the penguins and penguins_raw data sets popularised in the palmerpenguins package. basepenguins takes files that use the palmerpenguins package and converts...

Helpful trick for academic writing with #QuartoPub: sometimes when trimming down papers, you've got to remove references (ugh—bibliographies shouldn't count in word counts!) so I use this #rstats snippet to extract all citations & and find things that I've only used once to see if they're droppable

Question for people involved with computational science, #supercomputing, or similar at academic institutions or national labs:

Which do you professionally self-identify as most strongly?

#HPC person?

#RSE person?

Computational scientist?

Other? If so, what?
