There's a line between big bets using free cash flow and bailing out bad ideas. AI infra buildout as a big bet; as the MSFT leadership once said, the risk of under-investing now is higher than the risk of over-investing. But you typically don't want to sink _all_ your FCF into one bet!

Listening to #SCAsia / #HPCAsia closing session keynote by Kathy Yelick on how the community of #HPC must adapt in the new world of computing driven by #AI

Had a good chat over lunch yesterday with @thoefler.bsky.social about a most important topic of mutual interest …

… airline miles/points and qualities 😁

I wonder how many other people in #HPc are geeks on this topic?

Rio Yokota on the #SCA2026 fishbowl panel: "I don't think humans are in any way more trustworthy than an advanced AI" - "In the same way we trust other humans, we could develop trust to AIs" - "If people or AI generate code - how do we know there is no bug inside?" profound thoughts by a wise man.

Amirreza Rastegari - benchmarking expert from Microsoft #HPC / #AI engineering group - giving talk at #SCAsia / #HPCAsia on Azure HBv5 clusters using AMD CPUs with HBM plus InfiniBand interconnect - enabling sector-leading #HPC application performance via huge memory bandwidth

The future of #AI infrastructure is AND NOT OR 😁

Microsoft will have AI running on #MAIA200 and successors + more #Nvidia #GPUs + more #AMD GPUs + a few others things we aren’t talking about publicly yet.

Exciting times to be part of thinking, planning, delivering all this.

At 2500 attendees, good spread of international attendance, lots of good talks/papers, can we argue that the combined #SCAsia + #HPCAsia is finally joining SC and ISC to form a “big three” annual event of #supercomputing instead of just the traditional “big two”?

My first time at #SCAsia/#HPCAsia this week. I don’t have a crazy preset agenda as I would at SC/ISC, so looking forward to having time to explore new experiences, hopes, and perspectives on #HPC and #AIinfra, meet people, etc.

I have voucher A to get [thing] for $20.

I also have voucher B to get same [thing] for $0.

However, voucher B is not working … and I have now spent a lot more than $20 worth of my time trying to make it work … and won’t be giving up any time soon yet …

In what is now a solid tradition, the most important post-SC event ... publication of Glenn's SC notes!

#HPC #SC25 #supercomputing #HPCignites
I wrote up my notes from #SC25. Have a look: blog.glennklockwood.com/2025/12/sc25...

I’ll keep picking away at the editing, but would love to hear more from others about what stood out to them. I wasn’t at the conference itself as much this years as in the past, so I know I missed a lot.

Runways, roads, railways, datacentres, houses, supermarkets, … this observation often feels accurate
People don’t hate datacenters being built near them, they hate *anything* being built near them. The median position is never build anything

Can you claim to be a real #HPC software engineer if you've never coded with at least 2 of #Fortran, #MPI, #OpenMP, or #CUDA?

Can you claim to be a modern #supercomputing scientist if you've never worked with at least 2 of #cloud, #AI/#ML, #FP16, or #RSEs?

Big #F1 news - Adrian Newey to become Aston Martin team principal!

Could go either way - some technical leaders discover they have a hidden management genius within them. For others, the difference between a top team leader and a top tech leader rapidly become clear.
Aston Martin has confirmed Adrian Newey will be its new team principal, replacing Andy Cowell, who becomes chief strategy officer. #F1 #QatarGP
