Its not a perfect world, but the alternative would have been expiring subsidies which might have been irreversible. I think we can all agree, the timing and messaging was awful. When will we get better?

Wow. You're a friendly guy :) I do know how this works and Mr. Thune's job, by all accounts, is to stooge for the administration and he does that well. Senator Schumer otoh, & the Democrats, were given a referendum not even a week ago to hold the line. They did not.

An effective leader, even in minority, holds their caucus together. In a word, he LEADS. If he was in the mix of this asinine deal and let 8 senators not facing re-election next cycle jump ship, he failed at leading. If he somehow didn't know, he failed at leadership. Either way, its on him.
