mioncheisteanna go mór lena n-úsáideacht agus is maith liom na cinn seo, agus bíonn ceisteanna ar chumas daoine sa teanga go maith leis

Is deacair ceisteanna a mhúnlú a laghdódh éifeacht na bhfreagraí mianaidhmeannacha ar na torthaí chomh maith. Beidh teorainn le húsáideacht na ndaonáireamh i gcónaí, cé gur fóinteach iad ar go leor slite (tugann siad meastacháin agus léiríonn siad mianta na ndaoine, déarfainn) ach cabhraíonn na

B'fhéidir ach ní hé sin an chiall a bhain mé as 'This is a heritage voice preserving traditional Irish pronunciation.'

Scríobhfainn féin... 'This is a human voice with excellent Irish pronunciation!'

I'm voting for her because she seemed supportive of the recommendations made in Beartas Úr na nGael & the Staidéar Cuimsitheach Teangeolaíoch 2007, being the only politician who raised the case of the latter multiple times in the Dáil even after the gvnmt ignored it in favour of their '20 yr plan'

This is a very reasonable position. My issue with the proposed amendment is that it removes the UN part of the lock outright without anything replacing it and raises the number of soldiers government can send abroad without any Dáil approval, this is a direction that I am not at ease with

Yes, I would certainly like more than just Dáil approval, be that from a UN General Assembly (rather than a UN Security Council of the world's imperial powers) or a European Parliament. Perhaps approval from the President also!

I do have concerns about getting rid of it without anything else though

Mícheál Martin is right to say that as things stand at least, the triple lock works against our ability to act independently. In such a referendum I could very well vote in favour of amending it, provided it's only the UN security veto part of it that was specified

Triple lock is an issue I'm personally on the fence about, but it was always clear that she was concerned about the misuse of the veto by the US in particular and by Russia so I don't think it's fair to say outright that she supports it. She supports reform and the original purpose of the UN.

It's not hard to find Connolly on record criticising misuse of the veto & calling for a strengthening of UN structures.

You could argue that isn't likely to happen & therefore we should amend the lock, but to claim Connolly's position is that she supports the current situation is reductive.
October 19, 2025 at 8:07 PM
She does not support that, she wants the UN to be reformed to make it more suitable for the modern world so that the triple lock would serve the purpose for which it was put in place correctly, and she feels the triple lock is an issue that would need a referendum to be changed.
