Several thing could possibly cause it: weak right leg or loss of sensation in rt leg, causing him to deviate into the podium, an area of his visual field lost due to an undisclosed stroke, so he doesn't see objects in his right peripheral vision very well and can run into them are possibilities.

This has nothing whatsoever to do with 'reliability or learning work ethic.' It's hardly ethical or a good work practice to spread contagious diseases to your coworkers and get them all sick, too. That's a rather stupid and dangerous thing to do, in fact.
