Thanks to the huge commitment and efforts of both partners, we planned a fantastic program including a field campaign, ecotron experiments, meetings, public events, teaching, and institutional visits, to cite a few.

NUTRIBOR: Unraveling Boron Isotope Dynamics to Diagnose Forest Nutritional Stress
The NUTRIBOR project addresses a critical gap in our understanding of tree mineral nutrition under global change by leveraging non-traditional boron stable isotopes (δ¹¹B) as tracers of geo- versus…

The project proposes using stable boron isotopes (δ¹¹B) as tracers of geological and biological nutrient sources. It seeks to quantify how environmental stress like drought, soil depletion, and climate change alter nutrient pathways and leave isotopic signatures in soil, plant, and watersheds.

We are simulating Archæan conditions inside a reaction tube. By combining ancestral‐type microorganisms from the depths of Lake Pavin with Archean‐analog rocks from northern Canada, we are testing for signs of alteration, in preparation for a much larger experiment in the coming weeks.

We will use these little eucalyptus in mesocosms inside our large ecotron mimicking Brazilian climatic conditions in order to evaluate if the boron isotope signal is a good tracer of nutrition and water stresses. More about the Nutribor project here: www.samuelabiven.org/projects/nut...

Using the groundbreaking Ecotron facility, we will simulate realistic past, present, and future climate scenarios to study soil and plant dynamics under changing conditions. This is a huge step toward predicting ecosystem resilience. #GlobalChange #SoilEcology

This could lead to improper compensation of carbon emissions and wrong reporting of carbon sinks in national carbon accounting schemes. We recommend not to use HTT as a predictor for persistence and stress the importance to rapidly develop more accurate proxies of biochar C persistence in soil.
