The #garden, oblivious to the carousel of world events, is optimistic at dusk:
Clematis urophylla 'Winter Beauty' promising to flower for the first time
Daphne pontica pushing out buds of its yellow/green scented spring flowers
Helleborus niger the Xmas rose is here already

Fairly good parhelion at tonight's sunset, in the land of the Battle of Mortimer's Cross, 1461.

To Melbourne Hall, Derbs. Early C18 inc statues by Jan van Nost, & Bakewell's 1711 'Birdcage'.

Formal, with later borders around former mill leets.

Good pinetum (sad to see a metasequoia suffered in this summer's heat) and a great quartet of swamp cypress around a suitably green swampy pool.

To lose a projected £11 million through roadworks seems a bit rum.

Great to hear on @BBCr4today mention of Sarah Backhouse of Sutton Court, #Herefordshire who bred the first 'pink'-trumpeted #Daffodil, named after her - 'Mrs RO Backhouse'. She influenced these 4 breeders about whom I wrote for 'Hortus'. @The_RHS

All Saints' is located on Jesus Lane. The college Chapel across the road was also decorated by Leach & Sons on behalf of Morris & Co, but that's for another post. (End)

All Saints Cambridge is a dazzling and riotous display of craftsmanship (decor, pulpit, screen, glass) fortunately, now, in the care of the Churches Conservation Trust.

To explain the avatar - Isabella Stewart Gardner by JS Sargent. I visited Boston for the first time this summer, and her museum. Still recovering (and this is just the building itself).😍

A bluesky kind of day. Seems like a good time to move over. Looking at history, tapestries, arts & crafts architecture, gardens 🌱 books 📚 food, music, art, France & Spain, farming, countryside.
