READ: Columbia agrees to the Trump admin’s demands to start negotiations over returning $400M in federal funds.
Columbia is implementing a mask ban for “concealing one’s identity,” giving campus security the power of arrest, and appointing a top school official to oversee Middle Eastern studies.
March 21, 2025 at 9:13 PM
This comes as Trump's agencies have directed Columbia to plan for "comprehensive admissions reform" — incl. international student recruitment — for them to consider restoring $400M in federal funds. (Highlight is mine)

In his affordability plan, ex-Gov.-turned-mayoral-candidate Cuomo doesn't call for universal childcare (yet), saying it "would limit the city’s ability to fund other critical priorities."
He has some other ideas, though, to make care more accessible and affordable:

In other Columbia news, former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo is joining SIPA as a one-year fellow.

The city's Law Department also clarified the guidance doesn't apply to public schools, which aren't allowed to let ICE in without a warrant signed by a judge.
That may bring some relief to principals, whose union criticized the initial guidance: "We believe it causes confusion."
