Incidentally, irl, how people have reacted to being told it’s noticeable and asked to actually try to use my pronouns has been STRONGLY predictive of the quality of their allyship in general. I guess it tracks when you think of it as ‘willingness to embrace a little discomfort to do the right thing’

I know some people default to this approach because they’re Just! So! Terrified! of getting it wrong! But it’s a matter of habit: practising (and sure, sometimes fucking up, correcting yourself and moving on) is the only way you’re going to internalise it.

“Gary’s looking at it - if you ask Gary then Gary can tell you what Gary’s found” is a sign someone’s willing to put way more work into avoiding basic respect than showing it.

No. Don’t do this. It’s incredibly obvious & othering. We can tell you’re tying yourself in knots avoiding our pronouns.
