@bwroberts.bsky.social and I have suggested that self-selecting into challenging goals or situations could be one category of life experience that is more promising than exogenous stressors... I hope to have more empirical work on that to share soon.

We found no support for the idea adversity is reliably associated with growth. The intercept-slope correlations were null; the slope-slope correlations were negative. We should look elsewhere for life experiences that are robustly associated with growth and maturation...
