I think you're right. The idea of left v right came from the French revolution. Those who wanted monarchy sat on the right of the French National Assembly. Those who wanted democracy sat on the left. It was literally hierarchy vs egalitarianism

This exactly. I cut ties with my best friend of 25 years recently. He was never really political until last year. He's the biggest cop lover I know. He was a cop in the military, has cop friends, and wears a thin blue line flag.
