I’ll second the addition of Eden Lake and the Lodge is a very uncomfortable watch. Also surprised Martyrs isn’t on here.

Lighter (sort of) options I can recommend (not watching as they’re grim) include Eden Lake, Kill List, Martyrs or The Lodge. I’ve not seen The Coffee Table (and not sure I have the heart) but that could fit the bill too. I prefer my horror more warm and fuzzy these days!

Obviously horses for courses but don’t regret my purchase. Just the increased screen size has helped with my aging eyes as mostly play handheld. I did manage to sell my old switch for £150 which eased the pain. Pleased with mine so far but it’s sadly meant Steamdeck hadn’t been played for a while.

When I first saw this I was in two minds as to its brilliance or mediocrity. I’ve since seen it a couple more times and realise it’s probably great but a VERY hard watch so I don’t enjoy it. Dead Man’s Shoes and Eden Lake for the same bill arguably. Great films but one needs a shower and hug after.

I’d also point out that this isn’t a sub genre that I tend to go for. My favourite Frankenstein film up to this was Carry on Screaming! And I’m not joking there. Frying tonight!
