I've continued to recreate; here's some geo-nerd sites in NM.
White sands NP: Dunes composed almost entirely of gypsum and one of the most actively growing dune fields in the US.
Valley of Fire: One of the youngest lava flows in the continental US (<5,000 ya).
The last one is the comet!

Microscopy is one of the most fun parts of studying geosciences. The classes are tough, but sitting for hours with a microscope can be therapeutic.

I enjoy listening to audiobooks and go through a lot of space scifi. With the OSIRIS-REx samples being opening tomorrow, I've decided to start sharing some of my favorites. The Mars trilogy is at the top of the list. They are, IMO, the best account of the colonization of another planet by humanity.
