Indie game dev working and 2d artist working to release my little game one day... Prototyping in Godot, productizing in custom game engine written in C.
Definitely going to continue and finish my project. However, just thinking about pausing it for a short while and pivot to an experimental game jam that emphasizes short game loop iterations and high hits of dopamine for those players who want to maximize their very limited game time available.

Been consistently working on the same project for years part-time, lots of learning. It feels too generic like others in the genre. Trying some things to see how it might stand out, but it is feeling like it might just turn out not fun/appealing.

it certainly has its disadvantages esp with scaling and it's time-consuming, but a certain part of me likes that no one can impose their will on you. Once a proxy for value (AKA money) is digitized then it is beholden to the digital systems that control it.

yeah, there has got to be a technical workaround to avoid using visa/mc directly. Don't know much about it, but there must be obstacles/gatekeeping (by banks and lobbying by current monopolists?) that prevents more PPs from disrupting those 2.

would crypto currency work or just someone giving money without it being associated officially with the item for purchase?

or, yeah, I'd actually be ok with going back to shareware-like model--send me a msg with id of online giving transaction and I'll send you back a TLU to download the game. I'd almost be ok with snail mail and physical media for low volume purchases, but that maybe would not scale if things take off.

Maybe we can move to a world where you can still share your game on itch and the page has links to paypal/venmo/etc accounts to give money directly to itch and the game dev/publisher. That way it's not associated with the purchase of the game itself so payment processors can't prevent the purchase.
