And I think it can feel frustrating if your child doesn’t need those programs: door-to-door bussing, special services, native language instruction. Though my kid definitely uses the MBTA pass.

But it often feels like we are all fighting for more of one thing, without acknowledging the trade-offs.

And if we move to neighborhood schools, will we have the same effect? E.g., will BPS schools in West Roxbury need fewer native language programs? Will they then have more budget for academic supports? How will the new funding formula balance it all?

Yeah - we miswrote our heat pump model number for MassSave in the months before they changed whoever handles the rebates. We ended up not getting anything because of an errant “A” and the rebate system changing hands. But we want to get the rate discount.

Kilmer should qualify for bonus points for the first time next year. Warren-Prescott K-8 is maybe one year away from flipping to no bonus points. It will be interesting to see how a school community reacts to having bonus points taken away.

My kid’s particular class/grade was 11 students with disabilities out of 23, a year ago. Our non-Title I MCAS achievement percentiles were at the 6th percentile for ELA and 10th percentile for math. And our kids won’t be getting bonus points.

And when it’s fifteen kids at our non-bonus point BPS school - knowing that more than fifteen private school families are going to leverage it feels unfair. It feels like BPS is asking the few BPS families that don’t get bonus points to “take one for the team.”
