Luka draws a face on the pumpkin, concentrating very hard. To the right a figure wearing a bedsheet creeps up unnoticed, whispering a rhyme in Welsh, “Adref, Adref, am y cyntaf… Hwch ddu gwta a…” “GIPIO’R OLA’!!” It shouts and jumps up, scaring Luka. Elain calls impatiently from off screen, “RHYS!!”

I heard we were drawing our characters carving pumpkins. So here’s Luka (Lwca) Llewellyn experiencing his first Calan Gaeaf with the Sayers. 🧵
Rhys Sayer about to sink a blade into a pumpkin with one foot on the table yells, “Let’s open you up!” While a terrified younger Luka Llewellyn screeches for “Mrs. Sayerrrrr!!!” An off screen voice (Mrs. Sayer) yells out “Mwn diwal, Rhys Sawyl Sayer! Cyllell I lawr! Nawr!”. Busted, Rhys is frustrated with knife still held high above his head. Luka hides behind his lion stuffie. Mrs. Elain Sayer is cutting the pumpkin open. Luka is holding his stuffie close while he watches. Rhys pulls at his face and complains, “But maaaaaaaaa-“ “Rhys” “I wanted to do tha carvin’ this yur!” Elain sternly replies, “Not with tha wey you’re terrorizin’ Luka, you won’t. You boys can gut and draw; but I’ll be managin’ the knife, understood?” Rhys reluctantly sighs. “Rhys-!” His mother warns. He replies, “fffffffine.”
