apropos of nothing but when authors describe characters with "wide eyes" i know intellectually they usually mean A but my brain always translates to B

i am having one of those days where i'm sad and frustrated with myself and my poems, but i remembered i'd written this a while ago for times like this one, and i found it and it made me feel a little better so maybe you might need it too
black text with white background. break glass in case of emergency the point is not the poem, nor the book, nor the acceptance email from the prestigious lit-mag editor. it's not making it to the staff-pick shelf or the bestseller's list. it’s not the reviews which may or may not get written, glowingly, about your work, nor is the point the interview, the nomination, award, or the generous blurb. the point is hiding neither on the long-list or short-list. the point is not to get better at writing poems (what does better even mean, you manipulative gremlin) and the point is not even to be read, or heard, or understood. the point is definitely not your résumé. the point is not getting over how before you were published, you used to imagine books were “out there in the world” like intrepid little travelers, hitchhiking from reader to reader, bindle in hand, but how now you’re just at the mercy of normal people who leave goodreads reviews beginning with phrases such as “i don’t like poetry” and “not my thing” because you are past all that angst, mostly, sort of, on a good day— what i’m saying is: the point is when you get to the point where you’re saying what’s the goddamned point you can ask the question in your own stupid try-hard voice. whatever oneness you can synthesize, whatever god means to you today, you are that. the point is not funny, unless it is, i don't know. you are the point, and not-you is also the point. perturb the world with your rippling flails, like, in a good way. the point is alive. the point is. go on, and go ahead.

3rd grade. 1st, all book reviews should include where you found the book. 2nd, i love that the "well known phrase" i highlighted was something i've never heard of, rather than, say, "water water everywhere & not a drop to drink." also that nowhere do i mention an albatross. that bird can go to hell
Typewriter text reads: The Ancient Mariner. The Ancient Mariner is a poem. It is a hard book to understand, but excellent poetry. I found the book in a high shelf. It looked grey for all the dust. It was a little old book with a red leather cover. It was about how an ancient mariner sailed across the equator, was driven very close to the south pole by a storm, and how we got back (from a very long journey) to his home land. The book is by Samuel T. Coleridge. This book has lots of well known phrases in it, even you might know! Like this one for example: A thousand thousand slimy things lived on, and so did I. i just finished hand drawing a zine to capture the essence of procrastinating on a laptop with social media. it's called "how to write a poem good" and it might be my highest effort with lowest hope of reward of anything i've ever made and i'm a poet so that's saying something

one time i was a finalist for a book contest and while waiting to hear if i was one of the winners, my husband and my friend baked me a cake to celebrate, except then i didn't win so they had to modify the decoration

every time i don't win a contest, i think about that cake and laugh

Every film is a horror film if you take it there. Feels like any screen I look at someone is dying— grief has me freaking out my husband, who has started asking if I’m ok every twenty minutes. I don’t know how to tell him I don’t deserve my answer. Just like a clam I shut up when I’m afraid. Know that I have always been afraid, but not like I used to be. Once I was only scared to be alone. Movies don’t have to be well-made to fuck you up. Now I think the only way to die is alone, or maybe it’s that I hate parties I can’t adequately plan for. Hilary Swank has a haircut but I can’t quit thinking on all the ways the earth might kill me; riptide, super-volcano, extreme weather event, etc. Stanley Tucci goes out like a hero, blown up. The Core is no good but I'm worried about ultra-violet light and being charred to cinders if violent things happen to Earth’s magnetic field. What must I do? I assure you I can’t keep going, xanthic, quaking, flattened by every stupid B-movie. Yellow. Xanthic means yellow. I’m begging, for the zillionth time, please. Let me believe there's more.

I bought a copy of the classic cookbook “basic microwaving” online last year but when it arrived, tucked into the pages were two gems! A recipe on Far Side notepaper and a photo of Geoff in October 1983. Best $4 I ever spent. If I could find Geoff today, I'd ask him if the chicken parm was any good.
