Adam decided to make hot cross buns as he didn’t get enough last weekend. I was out for most of it. Bombarded by messages asking to buy sugar, yeast, raisins, allspice berries, all of which were exactly where they were supposed to be. But he got there in the end. Not all cross at my request!

Gloomy day today but the birdsong almost makes up for it. Merlin recorded (I can ID a lot birds but not all of these!) - blackbird, song thrush, dunnock, robin, goldfinch, greenfinch, wren, long tailed, blue and great tits, greater spotted woodpecker, as well as all the bigger & water birds.

Mine is a few days away. But an anemone came out in the garden

Annual bonding exercise going on downstairs with Adam and Shariq cackling over how bad their wrapping is. I’m a “try hard” apparently.

One of the #jolablokaflod books for tonight, going to my almost 15 yr old who is much better at grasping scientific concepts than I ever was (or will be). And he also gets Charlie Brown for balance. @alomshaha.bsky.social

I am home from hospital and lying on the sofa watching Ted Lasso (yet again) with Adam and he has just started flicking through Everyday Pressure Cooking “to find something to cook for you tomorrow.”

When a very kind friend knows you go out in all weathers every morning and knits you a hat big enough not to flatten your hair. The first hat I’ve ever felt comfortable in! It was supposed to feel like -4 this morning but I was snug @hilarymckay.bsky.social

Did half of this last week, got distracted, just went back now and the stupid barbershop singers nearly finished me off. The RAGE I felt! It took me forever even after a kind person told me to think about what their vests represented.

Very atmospheric day today. So much mist and the sun trying very hard to break through some quite dramatic cloud cover.

Today’s thermoses. A bit of a rice heavy week - unusually, but it is what has worked with the ingredients I’ve had.

Today’s thermos lunch for the teens is particularly carb heavy, but the pressure cooker pushes the flavour right into the potatoes.

A bit of an improvement…..trying at least.

I’m going to start putting the children’s thermos lunches on here, something I’ve been doing on Instagram for years. These are really fast to prepare and save me a small fortune. There’s also a chapter on them in my new book. Here is today’s.

Gloomy day but the birds make up for it. Kestrels and green woodpeckers and the skylarks have started singing again.
