Mahmoud Khalil’s wife told me that the public outcry over his detention matters.

“He has access to a TV at the detention center,” said Abdalla, who has received calls from her husband since his Saturday arrest. “He can see all the support.”

I have suspected that this arrest was directed out of the White House rather than being pursuant to the supposed “adverse foreign policy consequences” determination by Rubio.

Will be interesting to see what further information emerges on this front.
The amended petition comes after Khalil's legal team was able to speak to him for the 1st time.

It tells the story of Khalil's detention and transfer. In New York, after he had his biometrics taken, Khalil heard an agent say to another “the White House is requesting an update.”
